Simon James Phillips är en Berlin baserad pianist från Australien. Han är utbildad klassisk pianist men arbetar nu huvudsakligen inom genren för experimentel improviserad musik.

Simon JamesMusikaliskt skapar han öppna ljudlandskap vilket ger publiken tid att reflektera över och utforska ljudet. Genom att kontrollera takten av ett styckes utveckling, är hans intention att påverka uppfattningen av tiden genom musik.

Förutom sin solo konsert kommer Simon James Philips även att spela tillsammans med Sofia Härdig – röst & gitarr och John Essing – gitarr & elektronik. Detta under namnet Trio Switzerland. En ständigt transformerande trio med bara två  fasta medlemmar, Sofia & John. De är bara två men arbetar under konceptet att bjuda in olika gäster under sitt namn Trio Switzerland.

John Essing är i grunden gitarrist men är även slagverkare, improvisatör på skilda saker som Wha-Wha pedaler till Laptops. Spelar för närvarande med grupperna Bob Hund, Chesty Morgan och Sofia Härdig http://bobhund.nu/bob-hund/johnny-essing

Sofia Härdig arbetar både som en improviserade musiker i noise och experimentell musik samt som solo artist med flera kritiker rosade skivsläpp. Henes senaste skiva ”The Norm Of The Locked Room” blev av ett flertal tidningar vald till årets mest intressanta släpp. Hon har samarbetat och spelat med artister som John Essing (bob hund) Ikue Mori (US), Yoshimi (JAP), Mats Gustafsson, Sofia Agnél (FR).Edide Prévost och John Tillbury från AMM (GB) och artister från The Hellacopters, bob hund, Free Kitten(US), Bordoms(JAP), OOIOO (JAP), Sundburned Hand Of The Man (US) Sort Sol (DK) , Belle And Sebastian (GB) och många många fler.

We had the chance to premiere Simon James Phillips video for “Set Ikon Set Remit” which was a high watermark for the Tome this year. The rest of the album is a truly breathtaking and overwhelming series of solo piano pieces. Using only the natural sustain (read: no pedals) of the piano and Gruenwald Church in Berlin where this was recorded, Chair sounds almost impossible in the context of its minimalist approach to making massive sounds.

Chair somehow feels like that, like a living pulse, a raw yet still graceful extension of one’s slowly escalating heartbeat as emotions – whether they are love, hate, sorrow, frustration, joy, depression – coalesce to a seemingly insurmountable height, before tempering again.
